Ch. 7-9 Vocabulary List:

1. trellis 
a frame or structure of latticework; lattice.
a framework of this kind used as a support for growing vines or plants.
a summerhouse, gazebo, arch, etc., made chiefly or completely of latticework.
Heraldry. a charge of bendlets overlying bendlets sinister, the whole being cloué at the crossings.
My Sentence: The trellis was very large and beautiful.

dark, gloomy, and cheerless.

3. Crimp
To press into regular small folds; to make wavy.
Production was crimped by a shortage of workers.

5. unrelenting
not relenting; not yielding or swerving in determination or resolution, as of or from opinions, convictions, ambitions, ideals, etc.; inflexible: an unrelenting opponent of the Equal Rights Amendment.
not easing or slackening in severity: an unrelenting rain.
There were several traffic accidents due to the unrelenting winter storm.

6. ridicule
speech or action intended to cause contemptuous laughter at a person or thing; derision.
to deride; make fun of.
Words or actions intended to evoke contemptuous laughter at or feelings toward a person or thing
An object of sport or laughter; a laughingstock; a laughing matter.
A person should never ridicule their friends.

7. ginerly
cautiosly careful;timid
She gingerly put down the mug.

8. humiliation
shame or disgrace after you do or say something
His humiliation was so big he couldn't show his face.

1. To wrap or bind in bandages; swathe.
2. To wrap (a baby) in swaddling clothes.
The baby was wrapped in swaddling clothes when we first saw him.

8. burlap
A strong woven cloth made of fibers of jute, flax, or hemp.
The burlap was very pretty and very tightly woven to make it strong.

9. bustle:
1. to move or act with a great show of energy
He bustled about cooking breakfast.

10. encrusted
1. to cover or line with a crust or hard coating.
2. to form into a crust.
3. to deposit as a crust.

11. vigorously
an adjective to describe a strong, active movement.
Cindy vigorously pulled the grass because she was mad.

12. lush
an adjective to describe the richness of a plant.
The house was surrounded by lush vegetation.

13. roil
to render (water, wine, etc.) turbid by stirring up sediment
The directions to the science experiment told her to roil the water.

14. suede
Swedish glove leather, usually made from lambskins tanned with willow bark.
She wore her suede gloves when she attended the tea party.

15. im⋅mu⋅nize
verb (used with object), -nized, -niz⋅ing.
1. to make immune.
2. to render harmless or ineffective; neutralize.
3. Law. to grant (a witness) immunity.
We will have to immunize her.

16. ** Regimented**
–noun 1. Military. a unit of ground forces, consisting of two or more battalions or battle groups, a headquarters unit, and certain supporting units.
2. Obsolete. government.

–verb (used with object) 3. to manage or treat in a rigid, uniform manner; subject to strict discipline.
4. to form into a regiment or regiments.
5. to assign to a regiment or group.
6. to form into an organized group, usually for the purpose of rigid or complete control.
The people regimented the town.

17. cringed
to shrink or crouch in fear
They cringed in fear from the tornado.

18. bestowed
1. to present as a gift or an honor
2. to apply, use
3. to place or stow
He bestowed the gift on the table.

19. splothces- large, unusual dots, splotches, etc.
I saw huge splotches of paint on the wall.

20. frantically-desperate; insane with fear, excitement, anger, etc.
They were desperate to keep their home.
